What was The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic in Europe, turned to Confessions of a Shopaholic upon reaching U.S. The first one from the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella (penname for Madeline Wickham) focused on Rebecca/Becky Bloomwood – the main character; she despite being a financial journalist, is heavily burdened by loans, one of the darker sides of being a shopping addict.

Becky knows of her lack of knowledge in managing personal finance, yet she is reluctant to take any appropriate measure. She keeps on running into more debt (through credit card) and her affinity for designer homeware, fashionable apparel and beauty products now backfire, worsening her debts. To keep up with her habits, she starts accepting offers from other credit card companies and starts spending wisely. Instead of buying whatever she likes, she invested, with great care, on expensive birthday gifts for her friends in advance.

Now, while she heads a press conference, she comes across some bargain sign displayed on the showcase of a shop and requests the shop owner to reserve it for her till the end of day, as she wasnt carrying the card. At the press conference, Becky finds herself between the horns of a dilemma, as she was approached for her view on a new banking policy. However, Becky finally manages to get hold of the scarf by spinning a lot of yarns only to confront the biggest heartbreak of her life.

The movie is a light one with a bubbly if not sweet performance by Isla Fisher as Rebecca Bloomwood. Though Becky always wanted a job with a fashion oriented magazine, she somehow finds her way into the same publishing house, but to their financial magazine. So there she is with an unbelievably low credit score and shes dishing out advice to others about finance, investments, debts and what not. This doesnt seem to impress debt collecting agent Derek Smeath, played by Robert Stanton. All of this leads to Becky falling in love with, you got it, her rich, rich, rich entrepreneur boss Luke Brandon.

Shopaholics power to inspire awe in a viewer is beyond question. To view it now, log on to the Internet and download from the licensed websites.
